Is your business a great idea or an industry disruptor?

Over the last few years, I have been working on what I think is an innovative business that will disrupt not one but two distinct industries. Lately, it occurred to me that perhaps the term industry disruptor is being misused to describe companies which are merely vying for attention.

So, like any self-respecting geek, I turned to the internet to find out where this term originated. According to Harvard Business School, in the 1980s, a man named Clayton Christiansen started a company making ceramics out of advanced materials. Although Clayton was only in his 30s, his company was able to take over a market niche held by DuPont and Alcoa.
