In the early 2000s, Derek Richards was an Enterprise Architect EA for one of the UK's largest retailers. His days were spent presiding over frameworks and notations that were, at the time, industry standards. The thinking was, following the notations, would help everyone understand the language of the EA. The problem was, no one considered a new language needs to be learned. For efficiency, you require all the participants in the discourse to understand the language being used.
Something similar is happening today as supply chain and logistics companies are falling over themselves to embrace new technologies. The investment in time needed to learn the nuances of tech-speak is incredible, time the industry doesn’t have.
Derek realised, for much of the modern ecosystem allowing an IT analyst to track the completion of their work and discuss the processes with fellow EAs is the path to ruin. So, he tore up the old rule book and formed Zengi Limited to drive successful technology implementations by forgoing outdated notational standards.
